Katrina Swenson

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Creative Lead

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Creative Lead, Katrina Swenson brings years of clinical experience and an innovative mindset to Winston Center. Leveraging her expansive knowledge about learning and attention conditions, Katrina creates compelling written content for our software and platform development.

Katrina supports the Winston Center mission to help families find compassionate, customized treatment. Not only is she a talented communicator, but she is also certified in both AutPlay® (a play and behavioral therapy approach to working with children and families affected by ADHD, autism or other challenges) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Her specific interest in neurodiversity, including sensory processing challenges, motor-planning difficulties and learning differences, helps Winston Center address more patient needs.

In addition to consulting with and providing counseling at Winston Center, Katrina serves as a clinician at Olympia Therapy. Before that, she was an intake clinician and a therapist at Frontier Behavioral Health, Child and Family Services in Spokane and served as shelter staff at Volunteers of America’s Hope House Women’s Shelter. Her experience spans 12 years as a mental health therapist working with children, adolescents, adults and families. In her four years in community support roles, she assisted people with developmental and cognitive challenges. Katrina’s background and professional experience gives her invaluable insight and expertise to support Winston Center’s staff and clientele.

Katrina is a Nationally Certified Counselor, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State, a Child Mental Health Specialist and a Disability Mental Health Specialist. She is a Nationally Certified Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors. She earned a master’s degree in community counseling from Gonzaga University and bachelor’s degrees in English and Spanish from Loyola Marymount University.

Outside of work, Katrina has served various roles in PTA at her kids’ schools. She’s passionate about advocating for mental and social-emotional wellness for students and families. Committed to serving the communities where she lives, Katrina was also a Wishing Star Wish Conductor and a Big Sister for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Spokane.

In her spare time, you’ll likely find Katrina spending time with her family, various creative endeavors and entertaining/embarrassing her children with impromptu musical performances.
